4 Ways to Mix Up Your Exercise Routine in Richmond Hill this Summer
In the winter, working out can start to feel monotonous: the same gym, at the same time, with the same people. However, in Richmond Hill, the warmer weather comes with fun opportunities to spice up your exercise routine. These are Richmond Hill’s four best options for active fun this summer.
The Hillcrest Run Crew
A casual run club is a good way to change up your regular workout rhythm and meet like-minded people who will motivate you to run more. The Hillcrest Run Crew is sponsored by Lululemon and meets in front of their store at Hillcrest Mall every Tuesday at 6 pm. Their weekly runs feature 5km, 8km, and 10km route options with varied paces. They also host stretching workshops, walks, yoga nights, and long runs.
The Richmond Hill Canoe Club
As a fun break from your regular exercise routine, you can try out a drop-in session at the Richmond Hill Canoe Club. The drop-in offers one hour of paddling for $35, and includes a canoe, kayak, or paddleboard, along with paddles and life jackets. The drop-in program is hosted on Lake Wilcox every Saturday and Sunday, from 1:30 pm – 6:30 pm, from May to September. It’s not too strenuous and is a fun way to enjoy the outdoors and even bring the kids along.
Check Out a Hiking Club
Visiting a hiking club is a great way to get your steps in without needing any prior trail knowledge. In Richmond Hill, there are several hiking groups that span difficulty and location. The Oak Ridges Trail Association offers hikes at Jefferson Forest, as well as all over the Greater Toronto Area. Their Richmond Hill hikes are usually around 10 kilometres and take about three hours. You could also check out Trail Hike, an intermediate-level Richmond Hill group, or Forest Footprints, another hiking group with trips in Richmond Hill and all over Ontario.
Join a Summer Sports League
In Richmond Hill, there are lots of options for recreational sports leagues to help you enjoy the warmer weather while meeting new people. Onpoint Athletics offers outdoor volleyball leagues for groups of six adults. These leagues are hosted at Lake Wilcox Park from May to August. Richmond Hill also has several slo-pitch leagues, including the Double Diamond Slo-Pitch League and Slo-Pitch 4 U — they have options for men’s and co-ed leagues at varying difficulty levels. And for pickleball, you can check out the Richmond Hill Pickleball Club, which runs pickleball events through the summer.
